Sipha maydis is not documented in Hawaii, but it is closely related to the yellow sugarcane aphid Sipha flava, which is a pest in Hawaii. The parasitic wasp Lysiphlebus ambiguous, which preys on Sipha maydis in Pakistan, was introduced to Hawaii from Pakistan as a biological control agent against the yellow sugar cane aphid.
