The red-vented bulbul (Pyncnotus cafer) is a bird with a black body, head, and eyes with a lighter gray underside. About 8-1/2 inches long, it has a patch of bright red feathers under its tail. Males and females look similar. This species is the only all-black bird in Hawaii with a crest on its head (like a cardinal).  (source)
