The adult melon fly (Bactrocera cucurbitae) is 6 to 8 mm in length with patterned wings, a yellowish head with black spots, the top part of its body between the head and abdomen reddish yellow with light yellow markings (and without black markings). Although found in Hawaii, it is not present in the continental United States.  Within its range, Bactrocera cucurbitae is one of the most important pests with which vegetable growers have to contend.
