Astelia waialealae is a terrestrial rhizomatous perennial herb in the astelia family (Asteliaceae). Plants are short, from a bulbous caudex. Leaves are silvery, 12-20 cm long, and wooly pubescent; scapes are 10-20 cm long; racemes are 3-7 cm long; tepals are dark purple and densely pubescent. Astelia waialeale is native to the state of Hawaii (endemic to [i.e., found only on] the island of Kauai).
