Gardner, D. E. . Unpublished: Hazardous tree program Unpublished

ABSTRACT
In conjunction with the NPS Hazardous Tree Program I was appointed the representative for the state of Hawaii. The program arose from a number of injuries and deaths in mainland NPS areas resulting in lawsuits against the Service. This responsibility included noting various conditions that lead to unstable trees and other vegetation in the state and to report these to the Western Regional office, together with measures taken to prevent the hazards. No publications resulted from this activity but several photographs were taken. In general, Hawaii was not considered to have the serious problem with large hazardous trees that occurs in large mainland parks.
