ABSTRACT
A stem canker, discovered by Rob Anderson, appears to be killing numerous small to midsize trees of pilo in the Kilauea rain forest. Working in conjunction with Anderson, a fungus was isolated from diseased tissue and grown in pure culture. Although the fungus did not sporulate in culture, the growth form and color was reminiscent of a Botryosphaeria species. Inoculation of healthy trees was attempted but the results thus far are less than fully conclusive and Koch's Postulates have not been completed. Anderson had intended to pursue the study.
