Gardner, D. E. . Unpublished: Koa discharge. Unpublished

ABSTRACT
A frequently observed condition of koa, both in native forests and on homeowners' property, is a dark, colored, odoriferous discharge from inside the tree trunk. This condition might be merely a physiological phenomenon resulting of excessive root pressure combined with secondary bacterial colonization of the sap (resulting in the odor and causing a buildup of pressure within the trunk.
