ABSTRACT
I discovered and collected a rust on leaves and fruit of common fig trees that I identified as Cerotelium fici, a fungus not previously reported from Hawaii. I prepared and submitted to Plant Disease a "disease note" reporting this record. The note was rejected, however, with the explanation that this record was not sufficiently significant to warrant publication by itself unless it was causing significant crop loss.
