Gardner, D. E. . Unpublished: Circular leaf spot of Xylosma in Kipuka Puaulu (Bird Park). Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Unpublished

ABSTRACT
Only one or two trees of Xylosma are known to be extant in Bird Park. The leaves of one of these regularly contained purple, typically circular spots with clear centers visible on both leaf surfaces. Less frequently, the spots appeared as irregular purple blotches. I was not able to find a pathogen associated with these spots; however, submicroscopic agents, such as viruses, were not ascertained. The spots did not seem to be the work of an insect or other arthropod, although this was not fully investigated. No reference to this condition was found in literature searches (CD5 102; CD16 85).
