ABSTRACT
Koa rust, caused by Uromyces koae, was commonly observed on koa trees (Acacia koa) at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (HVNP). The disease cycle is not understood and only two spore stages, originally described as the uredinial and telial, are known. Spore germination studies indicated the need for re-evaluation of these spore stages. Inoculation tests have thus far been unsuccessful in producing typical disease symptoms. Disease characteristics asnd current incidence with HVNP are reported.
