Gardner, D. E. 1978. A new wilt-inducing isolate of Fusarium oxysporum from Acacia koa seedlings. Proceedings of the Fourth Annual Big Island Science Conference; 6 May, 1978; Hilo, Hawaii. 15-16.
ABSTRACT
Acacia koa seedlings grown from seed in soil taken from a natural koa habitat exhibited disease symptoms typical of those in other plant species resulting from infection by vascular wilt-inducing pathogens. A species of Fusarium was consistently isolated in the laboratory from diseased plant stem sections and grown in pure culture on potato dextrose agar. Subsequent morphological investigations indicated that the isolate belonged to the species F. oxysporum. Seedling pathogenicity tests under controlled artificial conditions resulted in reproduction of wilt disease symptoms in high percentages of test plants. Investigations are continuing toward characterization of pathogenic capability under more natural conditions and upon other A. koa-related plant species.
