Habit:  shrub

Description:  "Shrub, to 10 ft., branches obtusely 4-angled, scabrous to pilose; leaves oblong-ovate, 5-9 in. long, 3-6 in wide, 5-7-nerved, densely pubescent beneath; panicles 8-16 in. long, 3-branched, setose; flowers about 1 inch across, petals violet"  (Bailey & Bailey, 1976; p. 1112).

Habitat/ecology:  Full sun to part shade, medium moisture (Missouri Botanical Garden, Kemper Center for Home Gardening).

Propagation:  Seed?
