Habit:  herb

Description:  "Perennial herb up to ca 60 cm tall. Leaves sessile, linear or linear-ovate, apex acuminate, base attenuate and sometimes auriculate, margin usually revolute, entire or denticulate, occasionally coarsely toothed, 3-13 cm x 0.2-0.5 (-3) cm, with soft matted hairs at least below, sometimes glabrous or scabrous above. Heads in cymose corymbs; involucres more or less cylindrical, ca 3 mm broad in flower, involucral bracts 11-13, 6-8 mm long; ray florets absent. Achenes ca 3 mm long, ridges hairy; pappus 5-6 mm long" (Stanley and Ross, 1986; vol. 2, p. 576).

Habitat/ecology:  "Grows in disturbed situations, especially after fire" (New South Wales Flora Online). In New Zealand, "waste places, riverbeds and other stony places, cliffs and rock outcrops, also occasional in shrubland and grassland, sea level to 1000 m" (Webb et al., 1988; p. 284).
