Habit:  vine

Description:  "VinesLeaves membranous, blades 2.5-8.5 cm long, 3.2-9.7 cm wide, 3-lobed, glabrous and glaucous, especially on lower surface, petioles with 2-4 usually paired, stipitate nectaries ca. 1 mm long, stipules oblong-ovate, auriculate, 20-33 mm long, 7-13 mm wide.  Flowers campanulate, 3.2-6.5 cm in diameter, peduncles solitary; hypanthium 0.4-0.7 cm long; sepals green, inner ones with white margins, lanceolate, with a subapical awn ca. 8 mm long on lower surface; petals white; corona white, filamentous, up to 2 cm long.  Berries yellowish green, somewhat glaucous, ovate to globose, 1.8-4 cm in diameter" (Wagner et al., 1999; p. 1014).

Habitat/ecology:  In Hawai‘i, "escaping from cultivation and naturalized in dry to mesic, disturbed sites, growing over other vegetation, 10-1,220 m" (Wagner et al., 1999; p. 1014).  In Tonga, "occasional in disturbed vegetation" (Whistler, 1988; p. 32).

Native range:  Mexico, Central America and northern South America (Wagner et al., 1999; p. 1014).
