Habit:  vine

Description:  "Lianas; stems 4-angled.  Leaves with blades ovate to broadly elliptic-ovate, 7.8-13 cm long, 6-10.2 cm wide, glabrous, margins entire, base shallowly cordate, petioles with 4-6 usually paired, globose nectaries 1-2 mm in diameter, stipules broadly ovate, 18-35 mm long.  Flowers campanulate, 7-10 cm in diameter; hypanthium 0.6-0.9 cm long; sepals and petals white or white tinged pink or purple; corona banded with purple, filamentous, wavy, ca. 3 cm long.  Berries green at maturity, oblong, 20-30 cm long, 10-20 cm wide, aril white or grayish."  (Wagner et al., 1999; p. 1012)

Habitat/ecology:  In Hawai‘i, "naturalized in wet forest" (Wagner et al., 1999; p. 1012). In Fiji, sparingly naturalized near sea level (Smith, 1981; p. 668). In New Caledonia, "est toujours peu commune dans les jardins" (MacKee, 1994; p. 113). Arid lowlands in the Galápagos Islands (McMullen, 1999; p. 315).
