Habit: herb
Description: "Plant perennial, producing dense much branching bushes, branches at first procumbent, later erect, producing strong, stiff roots, 20-30 cm long or still higher; leaves decussate, crowded, internodes 1-2 cm long, flat, fleshy, oval to elongate, rounded above, crenate in the lower parts, 12-50 mm long, 8-25 mm wide, petioles 1-6 mm long, bluish, brownish in the crenatures and with adventitious buds; inflorescence 15 to 20-30 cm high, flowers numerous, 17 to 20 mm long, brown-pink" (Jacobsen, 1960; p. 647).
Habitat/ecology: Hardiness: to -3.8° C (25° F) and above 4.5° C (40° F); full sun to partial shade; drought tolerant (Dave's Garden).
Propagation: Adventitious buds (Jacobsen, 1960; p. 647). From leaf cuttings, seed; layering, stooling or mound layering; plant is viviparous (Dave's Garden).
Native range: Madagascar (Jacobsen, 1960; p. 647).
