Description: "Stem slender, knotted, up to 1.5 m high, glabrous below, woolly-hairy towards the apex; leaves decussate, stalked 3-4 cm long (longer with age), triangular-lanceolate, 10 (-20) cm long, (5-10) cm wide, fleshy, older leaves concave on the upper surface and the lower leaf tips longer drawn out, back surface convex, margins doubly crenate, olivaceous green, on both surfaces with dense woolly brown hairs, the tips of the teeth darker brown hairy, hairs on the stems and younger leaves and petioles white; inflorescence terminal, 50-60 cm high, forming a lax and intricately branched corymb, hairy, flowers on short pedicels, calyx 7 mm long, 4-anged at the base, lobes oblong, acuminate, corolla tube urn-shaped, 7 mm long, lobes oblong, rounded, 4 mm long" (Jacobsen, 1960; pp. 641-642).
