Habit:  vine

Description:  "Vines; stems twining, herbaceous, up to ca. 3 m long, glabrous.  Leaf blades chartaceous, cordate, 3.5-6 cm long, 3-5 wide, glabrous, margins entire, apex narrowly acuminate to acute, mucronulate, petioles up to 8 cm long.  Flowers solitary, axillary, or few in cymes, pedicels 5-40 mm long; sepals unequal, inner ones ovate, larger than outer ones, ca. 6 mm long, ca. 3 mm wide, apex acute, base rounded, outer ones ca. 5 mm long, ca. 2.5 mm wide, apex acuminate, mucronate, base rounded, all sepals glabrous, minutely verrucose, margins scarious; corolla yellow, purple within tube, funnelform, 2.5-4 cm long.  Capsules brown, ovoid, 1.0-1.5 cm long, 0.5-0.7 cm in diameter, glabrous.  Seeds often 4, sometimes fewer, black, gobose to ovoid, ca. 4 mm in diameter, glabrous to puberulent" (Wagner et al., 1999; p. 559).

Habitat/ecology:  In Hawai‘i, "naturalized in disturbed mesic sites, 15-600 m" (Wagner et al., 1999; p. 559). In New Caledonia, "localement abondant en bords de route" (MacKee, 1994; p. 41). "Malgré le fait que c'est une assez jolie plante ornementale, elle ne semble pas être cultivée dans les jardins et se rencontre spontanément sur sol gravillonnaire en lisière de forêt sèche, sur sables coralliens ou sur alluvions" (Heine, 1984; pp. 76, 78).
