Habit:  grass

Description:  "Culms spreading or creeping, much branched, rooting at nodes, glabrous or somewhat pubescent, nodes sometimes pilose, fertile shoots decumbent or rising 15-30 cm; sheaths shorter than internodes, more or less pilose or nearly glabrous, margins and collar villous; blades thin, ovate-lanceolate, 3-7 cm long, 1-2 cm wide, clasping at the usually asymmetric base, more or less hispid and scaberulous on both surfaces; panicles terminal and axillary, 2-8 cm long, the few branches spreading or appressed; axis, branches, and short pedicels angled, scabrous, branches villous at base, spikelets 2.5-3 (3.5) mm long on pedicels 1-2 mm long or less; first glume 3-nerved,k attenuate or awn-tipped, as long as or slightly exceeding the second, glabrous or with a few long hairs on margin, keel scabrous; second glume and sterile lemma 5-nerved, glabrous, the glume a little longer, acuminate, scabrous on keel; sterile lemma smooth on keel, acute or rounded at apex, palea well developed and often bearing staminate flower; fertile lemma about 2 mm long, yellowish, smooth and shining, scars at base about 0.3 mm long, margins enrolled" (Wiggins & Porter, 1971; p. 856).
