In Hawaii, "naturalized in low elevation, dry, disturbed sites" (Wagner et al., 1999; p. 619). In Niue, "locally abundant in disturbed places and on roadsides" (Whistler, 1988; p. 18). In New Guinea, "a weed of roadsides, waste land, young plantations; widely spread at low altitudes, but seldom common" (Henty & Pritchard, 1975; p. 99).
Propagation: "Reproduction is by seeds which are shed with an explosive mechanism" (Waterhouse, 1994; p. 98).
