Habit: tree
Description: "Trees 20-30 m tall, bark reddish brown, rough, soft, spongy throughout. Adult leaves alternate, blades discolorous, broadly lanceolate, 10-16 cm long, 2.7-4.5 cm wide, apex acuminate, petioles 20-35 mm long. Flowers 9-15 in axillary, simple umbels, peduncles broadly flattened, 13-30 mm long, pedicels 1-9 mm long; buds rostrate or fusiform, 16-19 mm long, 6-8 mm wide; operculum conical, rostrate. Fruit cylindrical, 10-18 mm long, 6-11 mm wide, valves 3-4, included and coherent across orifice" (Wagner et al., 1999; p. 957).
Habitat/ecology: In Hawaii, "planted, often as windbreaks...and regenerating from seed in and near these areas" (Wagner et al., 1999; p. 957).
