Habit:  tree

Description:  "Evergreen small tree up to 4.5 m high.  Leaves alternate, oblong-elliptical, glabrous to pubescent, acuminate, with lengthwise petioles, up to 60 cm long.  Flowers hermaphrodite, large, pendulous, funnel-shaped.  Spathe-like calyx, up to 17 cm long, with one sole tooth ending in a long tip.  Corolla 5-toothed, funnel-shaped, up to 30 cm long with long, curved teeth; it changes colour from a salmon-tinged white at the beginning to a peach colour at the end.  Fruits in berries, fusiform, up to 21 cm long" (Pérez, n.d.; p. 22).

Habitat/ecology:  "Tolerates most soils.  Lives in strong sun as well as in shade" (Pérez, n.d.; p. 22).
