Boundary Definitions

At the end of the day, GPS operators will connect the GPS unit to the computer and upload the waypoint and track files.  These files are converted to a form that is acceptable to the GIS and the tabular database.

Next, the newly collected points are matched with the rest of the GIS database to see whether they are within an already existing site or a new core.  A "new site" (a term we don't like to use but sometimes have to) is created when locational waypoints are roughly greater than 2 kilometers (km) from any known source tree.

There have been 93 sites defined on Hawaii so far.  Some of the sites turned out to be misidentified plants, but most of them are confirmed Miconia sites.
