OISC July 2009 Service Trip

Aloha OISC Volunteers!

Here are the details for the next OISC work trip. Please contact OISC at oisc@hawaii.edu or 286-4616 for information.

When: Saturday, July 11, 2009 from 8:00am to 3:00 pm.

What: We will be removing invasive Medinilla from Judd Trail in Nuuanu. Medinilla is a popular ornamental plant that belongs to the Melastomataceae family which includes highly invasive plants like Miconia and Tibouchina..

What to bring: We will be hiking off-trail to get to the work site. Take along more water than you think you will need - at least 2 quarts. Bring personal rain and sun protection like hats, sunscreen, and rain jackets. We will be near a stream so wear long sleeve shirts and pants to protect yourself from mosquitos and the elements, along with bug spray. Also wear sturdy walking shoes (No slippers allowed). and pack a hearty lunch because we will be working hard!

Where to meet: Meet at 8:00 am at the Church of the Crossroads parking lot at 1212 University Avenue, Honolulu. Going mauka on University Avenue, take your first left after the King/University intersection onto Coyne St. Then take your first right onto Kaialiu Street. The parking lot is located on the right, just after the road curves.

From the HI East, exit Bingham and follow Bingham all the way to where the roads curves to the right. Before that curve is the Church on your left side. Find street parking.

We will leave the Church at 8:05 am, so please be on time.

Please RSVP by Thursday, July 9, by contacting Chelsea at oisc@hawaii.edu or 286-4616.

All participants will be required to sign a waiver. Mahalo for helping to protect Hawaii's native forests!
