08 March 2008 OISC service trip.
We worked in 'Ihihilauakea Crater to control weeds and help maintain a fire break around a highly endangered endemic fern, Marsilea villosa. This fern, also known as 'ihi ihi or 'ihi la'au, resembles a four-leaf clover and was federally listed as endangered on June 22, 1992.
As always, thank you to all of the volunteers who are helping to protect our native species!
The Hawaiian Ecosystems at Risk project (HEAR) is currently funded by grants from the Hau'oli Mau Loa Foundation and the U.S. Forest Service with support from PCSU (UH Manoa).
