The Hawaii Biological Survey's Terrestrial Arthropod Checklist is
an authority file of terrestrial arthropod names for the Hawaiian
Islands. Island distribution is also provided as well as the residency
status, the endangered species candidacy status, and the common name. The
island distributions are listed in geographical order beginning with the
oldest, most northern and most western (Kure) ranging downward to the most
southern and eastern (Hawaii). This list is based on published information
only.
The fields included in this database are displayed in the following format:

ORDER (SUBCLASS): FAMILY
RESIDENCY STATUS
ISLANDS RECORDED FROM
COMMON NAME (if available)
ENDANGERED SPECIES STATUS (if candidate)
Many of the species on this list may no longer be present in Hawaii. Care
should be taken with numerical compilations from this list. Possible
extinctions may have already occured for some taxa, and those species that
were purposely released or were adventive may not be established. Some
taxa may have been extirpated from islands that are listed in their
distribution. It is always risky to state whether a biological element
is
extinct or not established. Past experience shows that some species long
considered extinct have been rediscovered (albeit in extremely small
populations), and some that have been purposely released have only been
recollected decades after the initial date of release.
Though the information contained herein is as correct as we can provide,
some errors may still be incorporated owing to lack of complete
information or misinterpretation of available information. If any errors
