Description: Shrub 6-25' tall, with 4-8" leaves, branches and leaf stalks having reddish bristly hairs, and clusters of 2 to 7 1-3" 6-petaled purplish-pink flowers.
Risk areas: Moist and wet areas, up to 4000 ft. elevation.
WARNING:Melastoma belongs to the Melastome Family, many members of which have proven invasive in Hawaii and elsewhere. All members of this family should probably be avoided in horticulture.
