Status of Ralstonia solanacearum as a biocontrol agent for Hedychium gardnerianum in Hawaii

Use of the bacterium Ralstonia solanacearum against kahili ginger is limited to local application for experimental use. EPA approval may be required before the fungus can be broadcast as a biocide. The fact that the pathogen also affects edible ginger needs to be considered. (info from http://www.hear.org/bibliography/references/9451_smith_2002/; info as of June 2000)
