Status of Aroplectrus dimerus as a biocontrol agent for Darna pallivitta in Hawaii

The Hawaii Department of Agriculture proposed the introduction of the parasitic wasp Aroplectrus dimerus from Taiwan as a biological control agent of the nettle caterpillar after host range and specificity tests were completed. The wasp has been in colonization at the HDOA Insect Containment Facility. A draft environmental assessment was prepared in 2007 and has been submitted for approval by state and federal agencies.
