West, Erdman and Lillian E. Arnold. 1950. The native trees of Florida. University of Florida Agricultural Experiment Station. University of Florida Press. 212 pp. illus.
"This book by two members of the staff of the University of Flordia Agricultural Experiment Station, Mr. Erdman West, Botanis, and Miss Lillian E. Arnold, Assistant Botanis, is limited in its scope to native trees. Into it has gone a great deal of field work, years of collecting, and much stydy. Their work with Florida trees antedates the actual preparation of the manuscript which was begun in 1935. It has been written in the hope that by increasing knowledge of our trees it will further increase public interest in Florida's peculiar and unrivalled tree life. The fine drawings from which the illustrations have been made were prepared, under the supervision of the authors, by Robert K. Turner, a student in the School of Architecture of the University of Florida." (H. Harold Hume, Provost for Agriculture, University of Florida; from the Foreword)
