MISC PUBLIC RELATIONS SPECIALIST - ID# 99365. Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit, Maui Invasive Species Committee (MISC). Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position, located in Kahului, Maui. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, and availability of funds.

Minimum Monthly Salary: $2235.00.

Duties: Works closely with MISC Coordinator in guiding and working with the MISC field team. Works in conjunction with a team of up to seven members toward eradication and control of invasive alien plant and animal species targeted by the annual MISC action plan. Serves as the primary assistant to the field team coordinator in translating the plan and guidance by MISC Chairman or designee into appropriate action. Serves as liaison with Youth for Environmental Services and other volunteer programs whenever the MISC Team Coordinator identifies opportunity for use of volunteers. Assists coordinator as needed in working with funding agencies to identify and obtain financial support for projects. Prepares substantive written quarterly progress reports for MISC and funding sources as directed by the coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited four year college or university. Two years of field experience in an active research or resource management program aimed at protection of Hawaii's ecosystems. Good organizational, communication and computer skills. Good interpersonal skills and ability to negotiate. Knowledge of Hawaiian biota and threats from incipient alien plant and animal invasions in Hawaii. Experience working with control of invasive species in Hawaii or elsewhere. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing. Ability to read maps and aerial photographs. Knowledge of basic methods in plant ecology and how to document a natural resource-related project. Basic computer skill in word processing and databases and aptitude for learning ArcView. Must have Hawaii Driver's License. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. occasionally.
