Maui Island Sustainable Living Expo (ISLExpo) 2008

Sustainable Living Institute of Maui is hosting the first annual Sustainable Living Expo PDF icon on 16-17 August 2008 at Maui Community College in Kahului, Maui. The conference will focus on island food and energy security and sustainable living education. (Info posted 14 July 2008)


2nd International Conference on Miconia

The 2nd International Conference on Miconia will be hosted by Maui Invasive Species Committee and held in Maui, Hawaii on 4-7 May 2009. Presentation topics include the biology of miconia, status of miconia's distribution, efficacy of different control methods, biocontrol agents, economic impacts, and outreach efforts. 10th International Conference on the Ecology and Management of Alien Plant Invasions (EMAPi 10)

EMAPi 10 will be held near Stellenbosch, South Africa, on 23-27 August 2009. This conference is the premier international forum for researchers working on all aspects relating to the ecology and management of alien plant invasions. (Info posted 09 July 2008)


2008 Hawaii Conservation Alliance Film Festival

35th Annual Natural Areas Conference

Volunteers needed at 2008 Hawaii Conservation Conference

Volunteers are needed at the 2008 Hawaii Conservation Conference, 29 to 31 July in Honolulu. A variety of jobs are available before, during and after the conference. All volunteers must attend an orientation meeting on 28 July. Free conference registration is available for those who work a minimum of 12 hours. (Info posted 20 June 2008 by PN.)


Pesticide risk reduction education short course on Kauai

Pesticide Risk Reduction Education short course is being offered on Kauai by the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources, University of Hawaii. This in-depth 16.5 hour course is about handling pesticides (including herbicides) in ways that will reduce risks to people and our environment. The course will be held 12 to 14 August 2008 at Kauai Community College, 3-1901 Kaumualii Highway, in Lihue. Register by 18 July 2008. Course fee is $115. 16th International Conference on Aquatic Invasive Species

"Invasive Species in the U.S" presentation by NASA scientists

Volunteers needed to help clean Kalihi Stream

KAUPA's monthly 2nd Saturday for Sustainability stream clean-up PDF icon is your chance to demonstrate your aloha for the aina. KAUPA (Kalihi Ahupua'a Ulu Pono Ahahui) is dedicated to restoring the natural and cultural resources within the Kalihi ahupua'a through education, outreach and action. 2008 Hawaii Conservation Conference (HCC)

The annual Hawaii Conservation Conference, presented by the Hawaii Conservation Alliance, is the largest gathering of people actively involved in the protection and management of the natural environment in Hawaii and the Pacific Region. The Hawaii Department of Health is testing dead birds for West Nile Virus in order to prevent this disease from arriving in Hawaii. Please help out and call 211 when you see a dead bird. 211 is the toll-free Aloha United Way hotline. Note the species of bird you see and the exact location.
