International Sandalwood Symposium 2012

The International Sandalwood Symposium 2012 will be held 21-24 October 2012 at the East-West Center in Honolulu. The symposium will bring together diverse participants interested in scientific research, conservation, ethnobotany, commercialization, and other aspects of sandalwoods. Pacific Islands Species Forum

The Pacific Islands Species Forum will be held in Honiara, Solomon Islands from 25 to 27 April 2012. The forum will be an opportunity for scientists, researchers, policy-makers, and conservation practitioners to share species research and conservation efforts in the Pacific. Pesticide risk reduction education short courses

A schedule of short courses to prepare for the Hawaii Department of Agriculture's certification exam for restricted use pesticides is posted by the College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources, University of Hawaii at Manoa. The schedule includes a course on Hawaii Island (Hilo) on 5-7 March 2012 and Maui on 19-21 March 2012. (Info updated 31 January 2011)

Volunteers needed: Maui fishpond restoration

Help rebuild the Koieie Fishpond in Kihei, Maui on second and last Saturdays of each month from 8 to 11 am. The revitalization of Koieie serves to educate Maui's youth and communities about native Hawaiian fishponds, the Hawaiian culture, its traditions and practices. (Info updated 1 August 2010)


Volunteers needed to help clean Kalihi Stream

KAUPA's monthly 2nd Saturday for Sustainability stream clean-up is your chance to demonstrate your aloha for the aina. KAUPA (Kalihi Ahupua'a Ulu Pono Ahahui) is dedicated to restoring the natural and cultural resources within the Kalihi ahupuaa through education, outreach and action. The Hawaiian Ecosystems at Risk project (HEAR) is currently funded by grants from the Hau'oli Mau Loa Foundation and the U.S. Forest Service with support from PCSU (UH Manoa). Historically, HEAR has also received funding and/or support from the Pacific Basin Information Node (PBIN) of the National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII), PIERC (USGS), the USFWS, HCSU (UH Hilo), and HALE (NPS).
