About the invasive species committees & councils of Hawaii
Several invasive species committees and councils exist in Hawaii, formed to combat problems in Hawaii posed by invasive non-native (alien) species. In general, their missions include trying to protect Hawaii against negative impacts cause by these invasive alien species with respect to Hawaii's economy, ecology, and the quality of life of its people and visitors. Each committee/council has its own mission statement and "flavor" to its mission, but they are working together towards a unified, statewide approach to harmful alien species prevention, control, and/or eradication.

Hawaii Invasive Species Council (HISC) - HISC is a government body established by the Legislature of the State of Hawaii with authority to provide funding and establish State policy for invasive species. Kauai Invasive Species Committee (KISC) - he Kauai Invasive Species Committee (KISC) is a voluntary partnership of government, private and non-profit organizations, and concerned individuals working to prevent, control, or eliminate the most threatening invasive plant and animal species in order to preserve Kauai's native biodiversity and minimize adverse ecological, economic and social impacts. Oahu Invasive Species Committee (OISC) - The Oahu Invasive Species Committee (OISC) is a voluntary partnership of private, governmental and non-profit organizations united to prevent new invasive species infestations on the island of Oahu, to eradicate incipient invasive species, and to stop established invasive species from spreading. The group is concerned with all non-native invasive species threatening agriculture, watersheds, native ecosystems, tourism, industry, human health, or the quality of life on Oahu. Molokai Invasive Species Committee (MoMISC) - The Molokai Invasive Species Committee (MoMISC)is a subcommittee of the Maui Invasive Species Committee, and is a partnership of private, government and non-profit organizations whose mission is to prevent new pest species from becoming established on Molokai. The focus of the Molokai subcommittee is to prevent and control incipient pest infestations through local communication, coordination and planning. This group is concerned with invasive plant and animal species that threaten native ecosystems, agriculture, industry, human health, or the quality of life on Molokai. Maui Invasive Species Committee (MISC) - The Maui Invasive Species Committee (MISC) is a partnership fighting to protect Maui County from invasive plants and animals that threaten our environment, economy, and quality of life. MISC works to prevent invasive species from becoming established on Maui, controls invasive species on private and public property, and educates people about invasive species and how to protect Maui. Big Island Invasive Species Committee (BIISC) - The Big Island Invasive Species Committee (BIISC) is a voluntary partnership of private citizens, community organizations, businesses, land owners, and government agencies united to address invasive species issues on the island of Hawaii (the "Big Island"). Specific goals include eradication or containment of Miconia calvescens, utilizing "rapid response teams" to eradicate other newly-established pests, and preventing new invasive species from becoming established. The group is concerned with all non-native invasive pests threatening agriculture, native ecosystems, industry, human health or the quality of life within Hawaii County.
