United States (continental except west coast)
United States (other states)
USA (Florida) native
U.S. Dept. Agr., Agr. Res. Serv. (2013)

Comments:  This species exhibits aggressive behavior in Kiribati (Butaritari and north Tarawa) (Space & Imada, 2004). While it is native throughout the Pacific, it does not occur on all islands and probably should not be introduced where it is not already present. Fosberg et al. (1987, p. 26) did not collect it on Butaritari and it is possibly an introduction there (local people say it was not formerly present). The species is naturalized in Hawai‘i (Wagner et al., 1999; p. 560).
