Habit:  herb

Description:  "Erect perennial, aromatic herb to 1 m tall with moderately pubescent foliage and bearing numerous pellucid-punctate glands on upper stems, leaves, and calyces; petioles 1-2 cm long, pubescent; leaf blades broadly ovate, 4-6 cm long, 3-4 cm wide, slightly attenuate at apex, rounded at base, irregularly serrate, deep green and minutely hirsute on upper surface, silkily pubescent and usually glaucous beneath; peduncles 2-3 cm long, pubescent, axillary to the upper, reduced leaves or leaflike bracts, forming ample panicles, these more or less leafy; flowering calyces purplish, 2-2.5 mm long, velvety-puberulent, the teeth straight, 0.3-0.8 mm long; calyx tube to 3.5 mm long at maturity, orifice then bearded with fine, white hairs; corolla tube about 4 mm long, about twice as long as lobes; nutlets 1.5 mm long, dark brown"  (Wiggins & Porter, 1971; p. 404).

Habitat/ecology:  "In forests of moderate density and along margins of trails and fields" (Wiggins & Porter, 1971; p. 404).

Native range:  Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela (GRIN).
